The collection consists of correspondence of Alexander Hamilton Stephens, two are antebellum letters written while Stephens was a U. S. Congressman representing Georgia's 7th District. The first letter was written from Washington, February 10, 1850, requesting a copy of The Daily Globe be sent to a constituent. The second letter asks a "Dr. Lee" in Washington to perform editing services for an agricultural report. The eight postwar letters are written as a private citizen in Milledgeville and Crawfordville.

The collection consists of miscellaneous correspondences and photographs collected by the De Renne family that pertain to a variety of individuals who were active participants in the cause of the Confederacy. The collection includes some correspondence written during the civil war, but the majority is letters of reminiscence and anecdotes from the post-war period. Correspondences are from: Edward Porter Alexander, William J. Hardee, Benjamin Harvey Hill, James Longstreet, Alexander Hamilton Stephens, and Robert Toombs.

The collection consists of eight Georgia-related Continental Congress documents. Documents include: a document signed by Noble W. Jones and Joseph Clay, a printed certificate for the "sum of twenty-shillings, being issued for the purposes mentioned in an Act entitled 'An Act for granting to his Majesty the sum of Four Thousand Two Hundred and Ninety-nine Pounds,'" dated "Georgia, 1773"; a certificate for bounty of land, signed by General Samuel Elbert, March 15, 1785; document signed by Benjamin Andrew, Savannah, June 22, 1785; a document on commercial matters including the sale of salt, signed by Joseph Clay, Savannah, March 4, 1773; letter regarding the appointment of Tax Collector for Chatham County, signed by W. Gibbons, Joseph Clay, and US Senator George Jones, Savannah, March 12 [14], 1798; two receipts signed by William C. Houston, April 15, 1786, on verso of a bill for legal fees; and a bill for boat hire for the "use of the detachments doing duty on the Skidoway & Hoseba islands," signed by Joseph Wood, on verso of a bill rendered to Georgia by James DeVeaux, January 19, 1777.

The collection consists of personal and business correspondence, legal papers, writings, letterbooks, and other miscellaneous items. The bulk of this material deals with family lawsuits concerning the estates of Joseph E. Brown (father of Joseph M.) and Julius L. Brown (brother of Joseph M.). Box 1 includes letters written by Joseph M. Brown (1909-1926, mainly drafts and typescripts) Theodore Roosevelt, Hoke Smith,S. V. Sanfor, and Thomas Watson. Also in this box are a few of Brown's writings on military history of the Civil War, as well as his views on labor unions. Box 2 consists of legal documents and correspondence to and from other people, including other Brown family members. Boxes 3 and 4 contain letterbooks of Julius L. Brown and cover the periods 1894-1895 and 1908-1910.
